The Social Work Profession

The Social Work profession is committed to maximising the wellbeing of individuals, families, groups, communities and society. Social Workers are highly educated, university qualified practitioners. We follow strict ethics and standards and are accredited with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
We consider that individual and societal wellbeing is underpinned by socially inclusive communities that emphasise principles of social justice and respect for human dignity and human rights. Drawing on theories of social work, social sciences, humanities and Indigenous knowledges, Social Workers focus on the interface between the individual and the environment and recognise the impact of social, political, economic and cultural factors on the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
Accordingly, Social Workers maintain a dual focus in both assisting with and improving human wellbeing; and addressing any external and structural issues that may be negatively affecting it, such as inequality, injustice and discrimination (AASW).
Social Work in NDIS & Aged Care

Awen Case Management & Advocacy is dedicated to empowering individuals through personalised, caring support.
Life throws many surprises at us, and while we cannot predict the outcome of any situation, we can take control of how we respond to certain situations.
We promise we will listen intently, never judge you and always be a safe place for you to talk and to be yourself.
As Social Workers we are committed to the pursuit and maintenance of human wellbeing. We aim to maximise the development of human potential and the fulfillment of human needs through an equal commitment to:
- Working to achieve social justice through social development and social change.
- Working with and enabling people to achieve the best possible levels of personal and social wellbeing.
While our organisation utilises standard medical and diagnostic terminology—such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)—to ensure clarity, facilitate access to structured accommodations, and align with external healthcare frameworks, we fundamentally reject the deficit-based framing inherent in these clinical labels. We use this terminology strictly as a functional tool to navigate existing medical and legal systems, not as a reflection of our core values. We embrace the neurodiversity paradigm, firmly believing that neurological differences are natural, valuable variations of human cognition rather than disorders to be cured or inherent disadvantages. Within our culture, all neurotypes are recognised as equally valid, bringing distinct perspectives and cognitive strengths that are essential to our collective success.
We are deeply committed to upholding the dignity, autonomy, and human rights of older Australians by fiercely advocating for their right to make informed decisions regarding their care and wellbeing. Central to this mission is our strict rejection of ageist language and infantilising stereotypes across all communications; instead, we champion strengths-based, person-centred terminology that honours the diverse experiences and inherent value of older adults. By combining respectful communication with rights-based advocacy, we actively challenge systemic ageism within healthcare and support sectors, striving to foster inclusive environments where older individuals are truly seen, heard, and respected.
